Yaşar University and HAVELSAN to collaborate

A cooperation protocol has been signed between Yaşar University and HAVELSAN in an attempt to produce local and national cyber security solutions.

In a Cyber Intelligence Lab that is to be created as part of the protocol, the software needed in the field of cyber security in Turkey will be developed; and simultaneously, experts will be trained for the field.

In order to contribute to developing national solutions in cyber security, Yaşar University signed a cooperation protocol with Turkey’s leading technology company in defense industry and informatics, HAVELSAN.   During a ceremony on the Selçuk Yaşar Campus, Yaşar University Rector Prof. Cemali Dinçer and HAVELSAN General Manager Ahmet Hamdi Atalay signed the protocol to establish a “Cyber Intelligence Laboratory”. Run under the coordination of Assoc. Prof. İzzet Gökhan Özbilgin, R&D, Technology and Productization Director at HAVELSAN, and Assoc. Prof. Ahmet Koltuksuz from Yaşar University’s Department of Computer Engineering, the laboratory is intended to support researchers and train experts for the field of cyber security and to develop systems and products needed for cyber security

EMPHASIS ON LOCAL AND NATIONAL

“Without the local and national, we cannot talk about cyber security. Even if we do, we just fool ourselves,” said HAVELSAN General Manager Ahmet Hamdi Atalay, who also said “As HAVELSAN, we work to generate a version of this field that runs based on our own software. We will continue developing  local and national solutions from scratch, as part of this collaboration. We lack almost twenty thousand cyber security experts in Turkey. In this regard, this lab will serve to train experts for the field while also producing local software.”

COLLABORATION MATTERS

Yaşar University Rector Prof. Cemali Dinçer noted, “The state itself as well as private sector and all scientific institutions bear tremendous responsibility for cyber security. We attach great importance to this field in the master’s degree and doctoral degree programs administered by our university. This is also evident in our academic programs, research subjects, and the cyber security lab that we have founded. It is our conviction that our university should give a lead in finding solutions for the problems. That’s why this cooperation is important for us.”

CYBER WARFARE SIMULATOR UNDER DEVELOPMENT

Noting that the ‘cyber warfare simulator’ that was developed at the Cyber Security Lab will be further improved at the new lab created jointly by HAVELSAN and the university, Assoc. Prof. Ahmet Koltuksuz of Yaşar University’s Department of Computer Engineering added, “This collaboration will allow us to support all institutions and organizations in terms of information, software and research. Undergraduate and graduate students at our university will also be given the chance to study with HAVELSAN’s researchers and to put their graduation projects into practice in the field of cyber security.”
