İZMİR GATHERS FOR FAVORS

Organized by Yaşar University with the contributions of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality based on the “İzmir, where there is goodwill” slogan, “favors” have scattered all around İzmir via İzmir Civil Society Network gathering various NGOs with the collaboration of Tülay Aktaş Voluntary Foundations’ Platform of Coalition.

Thousands of volunteers interested in doing favors met at Gündoğdu Square as part of the event focusing on “Responsible consumption” principle, which is one of the goals set out within United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Organized like a festival, on the favor-doing day, participants exchanged their books and belongings with each other, took part in rhythm workshop, got their umbrellas and some other belongings fixed, as well as took part in other activities where they could learn how to make compost fertilizer by making use of organic wastes in balcony, or learn simple fixing and repairing techniques from tailors. Moreover, hundreds of volunteers donated blood and stem cells at the Red Crescent stand set up as part of the organization.

FAVORS IN OUR CHORE

Highlighting the inspiration behind the event as “Campus, where there is goodwill”, Yaşar University Rector Prof. Cemali Dinçer said, “People in İzmir were born with genes of doing favor. Making it a reality and expanding it for masses of people required a pioneer. Human-beings are made up of favors in essence. What matters is to dig that side of them out.   The “İzmir, where there is goodwill” event that expanded from our campus so it has scattered all around İzmir has been organized for the third time this year, and touched upon the lives of thousands so far.”

RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION THE THEME

“As part of the İzmir, where there is goodwill event, we have focused on a theme to bring up the issues that interest all of us,” said Kevser Çimenli, Coordinator of Social Responsibility Program at Yaşar University.
