Young architect to cool Dubai with her architectural skills

Yaşar’s graduate young architect İdil Kantarcı, working at the Dubai branch of one of the world’s most prominent US-based architectural and design firms, Perkins+Will, achieved to be one of the leading figures of the Dubai Design Week thanks to her urban furniture designs inspired by Arabian deserts.

Kantarcı’s design was ranked among the top 3 at the 2018 Dubai Design competition, which is organized for the participation of the architects and designers living the United Arab Emirates by Dubai Culture and Arts Institution and Dubai Design Region.

The young architect informs us saying that she did a research on the lives of bedus in deserts based on this year’s theme ‘Water Factor’, and continues saying, “For Bedus who have achieved to adapt themselves to the challenging life in deserts, historically speaking, ghaf tree is quite important. Its deep roots allow it to reach groundwater resources beneath the desert and to keep its flawless green leaves on, which provides shady and cool spots for Bedus in desert.  Inspired by ghaf tree, I named my design ‘De-bunching’, which incorporates a vibrant spot of seats where there are sprays of water.”
