Vahap Şanal, who is currently studying at English preparatory class prior to his studies at Yaşar University’s Department of International Logistics Management, holds great achievements already at the age of 18. Awarded the title of “International Master” at the age of 14 and the title of “Grand Master” last July, Vahap Şanal is the youngest chess player from Turkey to be awarded these titles. Holding lots of championships including national and international ones, Şanal also won the Turkish Chess Championship in February 2017.

CHESS OVER FOOTBALL

Melih Yurtseven was also a licensed football player at Antalya Türk Telekom Sports Club in the amateur league when he met chess at the age of 8 whilst continuing his education. Starting with small-scale achievements such as ranking first in chess games held by his own school, Yurtseven continued his success in chess in province-wide competitions and quit playing football. The FIDE Master Melih Yurtseven has been representing the national team in various age categories for many years.
