Motivated by the “Campus, where there is goodwill” slogan, Yaşar University’s volunteer team which has gathered its students as well as its administrative and academic staff, is working to raise awareness of doing good across the city. In addition to the numerous social responsibility projects which it organized up to this date, Yaşar University’s volunteer team has just recently gathered 57 associations and municipalities for doing favors in an attempt to help people in need. Aid materials collected on the campus are being delivered to people in need.
To be able to graduate, all students at Yaşar University are required to pass the social responsibility course, which is symbolically equal to a 1-credit course. Students learn “social responsibility” and “social entrepreneurship” as part of this course. After passing the course, the students develop project ideas for social responsibility and realize them individually or collectively. Each year, over a thousand students realize thousands of favor projects as part of this course. Staff and academics also support students with their volunteer team which they created based on the “Campus, where there is goodwill” slogan. “We have realized numerous social responsibility projects thoroughout the year. We want to expand this movement of doing-favors around our environment and all around İzmir and to raise awareness of the concept of volunteering. We have carried out the ‘İzmir, where there is goodwill’ project together with 57 associations and municipalities in an attempt to send messages of goodwill. We have placed goodwill boxes at numerous points on the campus so we can do favors not just one day but every day. People can bring a variety of goods including clothes and stationery as needed,” expressed Kevser Yavuz Çimenli, Social Responsibility Projects Coordinator at Yaşar University, who also stated that they aim at expanding the culture of social responsibility.
