A great career at a young age

Graduating from Yaşar University’s Faculty of Architecture ranking first in her faculty, İdil Kantarcı now has a career full of success which she has achieved in quite a short period. After having job interviews with numerous firms prior to her graduation, Kantarcı accepted a job offer from one of the most prominent architectural and design firms, Perkins+Will, and got a great start for her career at the firm’s Charlotte Office in the United States.

“MY UNIVERSITY HAS ALWAYS SUPPORTED ME.”

İdil Kantarcı first studied architecture at Yaşar University. Subsequently studying at the University of Sassari in Italy and the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, US, Kantarcı also did internships in France and Italy during the summer to add up to her professional experience. Awarded lots of prizes at the national and international competitions which she took part in while still doing her BA in architecture, the young designer and architect has been placed among the best of her own field at the competitions organized by such prominent firms as Lufthansa, Philips and W Hotel.

HER PROFESSIONAL LIFE STARTED IN THE USA

Perkins+Will, which did large-scale jobs such as the master plan for the Boğaçayi Project in Antalya and the Topkapi Fold Community in İstanbul, became where the Yaşar’s graduate İdil Kantarcı got a start in her career. “I studied at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte during my senior year at university. I presented my final project for graduation before some professional architects from different firms. Thanks to my final project presentation, I was able to have job interviews with numerous companies. Among these companies was my favorite company, Perkins+Will, whose projects I admire. Following my graduation in the US, I accepted Perkins+Will’s offer and started to work at its office in Charlotte. The firm is founded on a philosophical base which firmly believes that design is potent enough to change life and society. Operating from over twenty offices around the world, the firm offers services in interior architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture which range in different scales.  They are also operating in Turkey, too. So, my aim here is to get new experiences by working on global-scale projects and representing my country as a successful architect,” expressed Kantarcı.

JACK-OF-ALL-TRADES

Stating that she is also a freelance concept, furniture and object designer, Kantarcı is the creative director of Naturalist, a new furniture brand in New York. The designs created by İdil, who designs branding and showroom concepts for Naturalist, are expected to be seen in the brand’s New York and Washington DC showrooms by the end of this year.
